July 28 - President Halbig initiated Landmark status for Lang House. History & Art Chair Steven Block is following up on this.
August - LWV pushes successfully for Veteran's Administration to have voting and registration at their facilities. Secretary of State Trey Grayson has initiated this change in KY. The League appreciates the state's quick action as statutorially, under the National Voter Rights Act (NVRA) this should occur. "Those who are unable to get to the polls and have served our country deserve to be able to have this service available" said LWV President Halbig. Voter registration cards can just be handed out on admission to hospitals to facilitate the process.

Young Job Corps Center and received Certificates of Appreciation from LWV, one volunteer from AAUW and the rest LWV.

Senator Mitch McConnell declines to participate
in televised
The League of Women Voters of
Kentucky (LWVKY) regrets to announce that it will not be able to sponsor a
debate this fall between the two major candidates for the U.S. Senate seat from
LWVKY President Teena Halbig
said Senator McConnell, the Republican candidate, had his campaign notify the
League recently that he would not participate in a televised debate sponsored
by the League. The other candidate’s
campaign for Bruce Lunsford, Democrat, is willing to participate.
The League had invited both
candidates to participate in a debate to be produced in conjunction with the
annual meeting of the Kentucky Broadcasters Association that brings media from
throughout the
"We're very disappointed
that we could not get both major senatorial candidates to agree to participate
in a debate this year," Halbig said. "We believe that televised
debates are one of the most effective ways for voters to learn about the
candidates and their positions. Exposing voters to a rigorous debate of the
critical issues facing this nation today is a cornerstone of the democratic

candidates in this race just had 150 persons in the audience.

NATIONAL WOMEN’S HEALTH WEEK
The Louisville League
is working with the Louisville Metro
Office for Women and Norton Cancer Institute to provide no-cost mammograms
to eligible participants over 40 who have not been screened in the past
year. State law requires billing of
insurance carriers for those who are insured – so please come and
bring your insurance card on May 12 from 10:00am to 2:00pm to have your
mammogram done in the mobile mammogram unit that will be in our Lang House
parking lot at
